What is a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (Processing)?
CISD was developed in 1974 for use with small groups of paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement officers who were distressed by an exposure to some particularly gruesome event.
What is a Diffusing?
Unlike a CISD, a diffusing is more simple and less reserved. It often takes place within 24-hours after an incident, at the First Responder’s base. Although a Diffusing has an educational piece attached to the peer support interaction, it also involves the opportunity to let those affected by a traumatic call or incident, know that they are supported; a Diffusing also gives them an opening for the First Responders to share some initial thoughts about their experience in a confidential manner, with those directly involved with the incident. This, in itself, can assist those individuals move towards recovery.
FRTC (and Peer Support) will respond to Critical Incidents, upon request and if appropriate, to assist with those First Responders who are needing immediate assistance in processing the incident.
First Responder Trauma Counselors realizes that suffering from a mental health crisis can often be a frightening and lonely experience. The stigma attached to the First Responder tribe, places and additional overwhelming stress on what may have already become an out of control crisis situation.
We at FRTC do everything we can to help alleviate, stabilize and treat the First Responder prior to them having to go to a hospital. If the situation is a medical emergency, FRTC will and can be there with them to ensure they receive the most effective and private treatment to ensure that their integrity is not compromised. We will advocate and keep interactions confidential to the very best of our abilities.
Nobody should ever have to fight alone.
All of our forms and processes are HIPAA compliant and our offices are not housed within or near to any government buildings or First Responder work locations. This adds an additional layer of privacy for struggling clients. We understand that for you to reach out, is a big deal, we want to assure our clients that only those that need to know, know what is going on.
We are now offering TeleTherapy. Although it has not been our first choice in our practice, we at FRTC support for First Responders, and therefore have added this option due to COVID-19. Know that we are Here For You.
What is Brain Spotting?
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.
Brainspotting is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment, enhanced with Biolateral sound, which is deep, direct, and powerful yet focused and containing.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has demonstrated effectiveness for trauma.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a therapeutic technique in which clinicians make suggestions to individuals who have undergone a procedure designed to relax them and focus their minds.
Although hypnosis has been controversial, most clinicians now agree it can be a powerful, effective therapeutic technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety and mood disorders. Hypnosis can also help people change their habits, such as quitting smoking.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.
Vibroacoustic Resonance Therapy is a new sound technology that uses audible sound vibrations to reduce symptoms, invoke relaxation, and alleviate stress. This technology is developed based on the recognition that external vibration can influence body function. Research demonstrates the effectiveness of vibroacoustic therapy
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances.
